Since 1977, the Center for the Study of Women and Society has promoted interdisciplinary feminist scholarship. The center’s research agenda focuses on the intersectional study of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, and nation in societies around the world.
The Center co-sponsors the Women’s Studies Certificate Program and most notably, hosts the only stand-alone Women’s and Gender Studies MA Program in New York City. Through an academic perspective, our students gain a grounding in real-world issues and problems. Our students are mentored, taught, and led by internationally known faculty in many areas of research. Students are given access to the Center’s many lectures, symposia, and collaborations with grassroots organizations. Our center has co-sponsored many events prominent activists, educators and intellectuals. Most recently, we have been grateful to have Roxanne Gay, Linda Martin Alcoff, and Meena Alexander. As a public institution, The Center offers a world-class education at a fraction of the cost of comparable universities.
